In his latest post on Google's official blog, Jason Holt, the genius behind Liquid Galaxy (now on display at The Tech Museum as part of my curatorial gig), spilled the beans about the inner working of this amazing installation:
"Liquid Galaxies don’t have to be made from eight big LCD screens; the view sync features scale just fine from two to dozens of screens. And they can run more than just Google Earth; we’ve had success playing video in sync in our Liquid Galaxies, and even modified a Free Software video game for after-hours fun. We’ve daydreamed about making panoramic movies, head tracking or even real-time video from distant panoramic cameras. Read more on theLiquid Galaxy page at earth.google.com, and show off your creations in the liquid-galaxy discussion group." (Jason Holt, Official Google Blog, emphasis added)
Isn't this thing just amazing?
The first time I saw it, I thought this was SimCity 5... And can you imagine all the possible video game applications? Playing a first-person shooter in a panorama-like room, on eight screens, with 3D sound? Sky is the limit...
