The August 2010 issue of Rolling Stone magazine (Snoopy on the cover!) features my short article on the rise of dancing games, from Dance Central to Michael Jackson: The Game, from SingStar Dance to Just Dance 2.
New gesture-recognition controllers, like Microsoft Kinect and PlayStation Move will likely reinvent a genre that for way too long relied on lame Twister-like mats (i.e. Dance Dance Revolution, the home versions).
This is particularly timely, considering that just a few days ago The New York Times interviewed Chase Brock, the designer of Dance on Broadway, a dancing game for the Nintendo Wii.
In just a few months, we will be embarrassing ourselves on our domestic dance floors, and, potentially, on a worldwide stage as well, thanks to online challenges, webcams, and all that jazz. Basically, our future is going to look like Napoleon Dynamite, so brace yourself and get ready to Vote for Pedro.
